Sep 03, 2014  I have Safari, Chrome and Firefox as browsers. They are all in my dock. Safari is my default browser. After I've shut down the computer, when I start up again, Chrome is the only browser that opens automatically at start up. I don't want any of them to do that. I've looked through preferences and can't find anything.

Change your default web browser

  1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple () menu.
  2. Click General.
  3. Choose your web browser from the ”Default web browser” pop-up menu.

Change your default email app

  2. Choose Preferences from the Mail menu, then click General. Or, if you're prompted to set up an email account, add your account, then choose Preferences from the Mail menu.*
  3. Choose your email app from the ”Default email reader” pop-up menu.

* You can also set your default email app in the preferences of your third-party email app.

Certain actions that you perform on your Mac will cause default apps to open. For example, clicking a document may open Pages. But what if you want Microsoft Word to open instead? You can also set your default web browser and email reader.

Here's how!
