Jun 14, 2017  Unlike the Fitbit Blaze and Moto 360 Sport, the Garmin Vivosmart HR+is unashamedly a fitness tracker first. The basic black unit I reviewed has a tiny rectangular 1.0 x.

Best answer: Like most fitness trackers, the Garmin Vivosmart HR isn't technically waterproof. Instead, it's water-resistant. In this case, you can use it in a water depth of up to 50 meters without having problems.

What does being water resistant mean?

Look carefully and you'll notice that wearable devices such as the Garmin Vivosmart HR aren't waterproof, but instead water resistant. For the Garmin Vivosmart HR, this distinction means the product can be worn during surface swimming, shallow snorkeling, and similar activities. You can also wear it in the shower or bath.

With that being said, the Garmin Vivosmart HR can't track swimming activities like other fitness devices such as Garmin's Vivosmart 4, which we recommend below.

Nothing is waterproof

It's important to note that no wearable device is truly waterproof. When you're in the market for fitness devices or smartwatches, look to see how water resistant they are and decide if that's enough for the activities you enjoy the most.

While most (but not all) fitness trackers in 2019 are likely to survive in a shower or swimming pool, some are more durable than others. For example, the Garmin Vivosmart HR has a 5 ATM rating, which means it can withstand pressures equivalent to a depth of 50 meters. Other products, however, include an even better 10 ATM rating. These products can withstand forces equal to a depth of 100 meters. Recommended activities include bathing, swimming, and snorkeling, but not deep water scuba diving and high-speed water sports.

What Garmin says

On its water specification page, Garmin explains how it tests its products for water resistance. The company notes: 'We rigorously test our devices to make sure they'll survive the activities for which they were designed. You should note that even if a device is above a depth it is rated for, it might still suffer water ingression if it is subjected to an activity that creates pressure on it that exceeds that depth rating.'

The Garmin Vivosmart HR

There are quite a few players in the world of fitness trackers and Garmin has established themselves as one of the best. Their fitness trackers are consistently well reviewed and the Vivosmart HR is no exception. Behringer x32 control app. It gives you all the typical, important functions you need for tracking your workouts such as steps, distance, calories, etc., but it also connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth to give you even more functionality.

Control your music

It's not too much of a stretch to say that music is one of the things that connects the entire human race together. Music can inspire us, give us confidence, help us through tough times, connect us to loved ones, and so much more. One of the biggest ways music can help us is to keep us motivated during difficult workouts. I think you would be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't use music to help motivate themselves during a workout.

With a simple tap, you can change up the song.

Workouts are hard enough on their own so any distraction can be quite annoying. Thankfully the Vivosmart HR is small, thin, and light and it sits comfortably on your wrist so it's not distracting. However, sometimes the absolute wrong song comes on in the middle of your hardest interval and you need a new song asap. Good news for you is that Garmin added in music controls to the Vivosmart HR so with a simple tap, you can change up the song to help push you through those painful last seconds.

It's not perfect

While these controls are super helpful, they are still frustratingly limited. For instance, they will default to the last music/podcast player that was last used on your phone and there's no way to pick a default music player. Also, it doesn't quite fully support certain music players such as Amazon Music. There actually used to be a way to choose a default app but for some reason, they removed it in a recent software update. There have also been reports of the controls having somewhat spotty functionality with many folks saying it's hit or miss as to whether or not it will work at the moment. Uninstalling and reinstalling the Garmin Connect app seems to help and Garmin is aware of the issue and is working on a fix.

I don't usually fuss too much with my music during a workout as I'm either using a pre-built playlist or I'm streaming and just skip to the next song so I wouldn't be too worried about this but you workout flow may differ.
