May 19, 2020  The Soundflower software was originally released in by Cycling '74 in 2004 and as an open-source project has encountered difficulties in keeping pace as Mac audio architecture has changed. Soundflower still works, however, despite the additional security steps. Soundflower is an open source kernel extension for MacOS, designed to create a virtual audio output device that can also act as an input. Initial development and maintenance of Soundflower was done by Cycling '74. In 2014, Cycling '74 passed stewardship of Soundflower to Rogue Amoeba, but we ultimately didn't have the time or resources to improve the product.

I am still using it on my older, late 2009, 27 inch screen iMac, running both OS X Mountain Lion and OS X Mavericks to power an older, no longer available sound enhancement app.

I am not sure if Soundflower still works with new Macs running the new macOS Sierra, though.

Did you keep the original, last version of SoundFlower plugin available from the original developer's website before development of this plugin ended?
